Our good friend Cedric Broddie over at GospelConnoisseur.com reports this tremendous recap of the 2011 Celebration of Gospel.

The best of the best in Gospel music were in Los Angeles over the weekend for BET’s 11th annual Celebration of Gospel. The event hosted by funny man, Steve Harvey was held at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Artists from the Gospel and R&B worlds, both engaged the audience with luminous interpretations of Gospel and Inspirational songs.

Whitney Houston was the special surprise guest of the evening. Whitney joined Kim Burrell for a duet of Whitney’s song, “I Look To You.” The show-stopping performance was met with thunderous applause and cheers from the audience. Whitney’s voice was in good shape to match the vocal styling of Kim Burrell.

Kirk Franklin kick the night off, like only Kirk can do with a new song from his upcoming album. Kirk, can you teach me how to dougie?

Later in the evening Kirk joined Israel Houghton in a performance of “Help Somebody.”
