Check out a recent blog from one of our staff member’s son who wrote a blog and edited this photo of him hooded and resembling Trayvon Martin:

A lot has happen in the past 3 months but to me, this one has stands out the most. The tragedy of the killing of Trayvon Martin, is making a tremendous impact on the youth today. Today’s youth, are being made more aware of what goes on in our communities; we are keeping up with the news, and of our surroundings. This horrible event has affected kids from the ages 12+ and the reason I created this image. It shows that Trayvon Martin, could have been me. The significance of this photo is, that just because you’re African American and you wear a hood, doesn’t mean, that you are up to, no good.

The biggest way that is has affected me, is that, I could have been the kid walking from the store, with tea in one hand, and Skittles in the other, with a hood on. Another way it has affected me is, the way I look at the world, today. Society is changing rapidly each and everyday but this event, has also ignited a situation that, has been swarming around for decades now, and it will never, go away. Racism is still alive and as minorities, we have to know that. This event has opened my eyes to see, that yes, racism is still alive and yes we Blacks have to be aware of it. No, I’m not saying, we need to go to our co-workers/ peers and call them a racist. No, all I’m saying is, that we need to be aware of what’s happening in today’s world.
