A fire that began at a mechanic’s shop spread to an apartment building on Thursday injured one firefighter. According to reports, the fire broke out on Mesa Drive near Richland Drive in northeast Houston just after 3:00 P.M. Thursday. Several Houston firefighters fought the two-alarm blaze.

Additional reports indicate that high winds spread the flames to the neighboring Rio Verde Apartments. Eight units at the apartment complex were reportedly affected by the fire and one firefighter was injured during the fire. The extent of the firefighter’s injuries were not released and it is unknown if the firefighter was taken to a hospital. There were no other injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
