According to reports, a mother was allowed visitation with her children after they were removed from an abandoned school bus where they lived.

Sherrie Shorten had not seen her 5-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter since December 2010. The children are still in the custody of Child Protective Services. On Friday, they were able to visit with Shorten.

Shorten and her husband, the father of the children, were in jail for wire fraud. While they were jailed, a great aunt cared for them while they lived in an abandoned school bus. While their great aunt worked, the children were left alone up to 12 hours a day.

Earlier last week, Shorten said she realizes all the wrong she did and that she wants to put her family back together.

Shorten’s husband is expected to be released from prison in July.

The next CPS hearing for this case will be held May 2.
