Showers and thunderstorms may continue in the Houston region for the next few days, but Houston and surrounding areas are expected to begin to dry out late in the weekend.
Meteorologists report that an upper-level disturbance that sparked rainfall throughout the region Thursday is expected to remain in the area, possibly bringing more showers through at least part of the weekend. The disturbance brought heavy downpours on Thursday in some areas. Portions of Grimes, Montgomery and Waller counties recorded approximately five inches of rain.
Some of the storms on Thursday produced high winds that toppled trees. A portion of a brick wall was also toppled in northwest Houston. There were no injuries were reported.
There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms possible for Friday. Forecasters say that the best chance for rainfall may be after about 1:00 p.m. Friday as temperatures begin to rise. The high for Friday is expected to be about 89 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The low is expected to be in the lower 70s.
More rain could be possible Saturday, as a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms exists. The high for Saturday will be near 90 degrees under partly sunny skies. The low is expected to be in the lower 70s.
The Houston area is expected to dry out by Sunday with a 20 percent chance of rain in the forecast. The high is expected to be near 92 with lows in the mid 70s.
