According to the Houston Independent School District, for the second consecutive year, HISD is among the top 100 fleets in the nation for 2012; the data is according to Government Fleet, a leading transportation industry magazine.
Texas’ largest school district moved up five spots to number 52 on the list and once again is the only school district in the country to earn a spot on the list.
HISD’s Chief Operating Officer Leo Bobadilla feels the honor is one that showcases the greatness of HISD’s transportation schedule: “Ranking among the best in the nation is a clear reflection of the hard work of our transportation team, from our bus drivers to our mechanics and our entire staff,” Bobadilla said in a statement released to News 92 FM. “HISD’s Transportation Department is truly dedicated to safely transporting our students to and from school every day.”
According to HISD,”Each year the top 100 fleets are chosen based on documentation of key performance measurements used to track work progress, use of technology, evidence of a high trust culture where employees feel confident to voice their opinions on procedures, repairing vehicles right the first time, and quick efficient turnarounds on repairs.”
HISD’s latest transportation honor comes upon the heels of the district’s transportation department recently selected as a finalist for the prestigious national Larson Quality Award by the National Association of Pupil Transportation. The award is one that spotlights school bus operations that provide high quality customer service in safety centered operations. HISD’s Transportation Department is one of only two districts nationwide that was selected as a finalist.
HISD data indicates that the school district operates and maintains over 1,000 school buses which transport nearly 29,000 students daily. The busses travel approximately 13 million miles a year. The district also has a large non-school bus fleet which includes gas, diesel and hybrid vehicles that accumulate 8 million miles annually of travel.
