In the long-awaited interview with Oprah Winfrey, cyclist Lance Armstrong finally admitted to using performance enhancing drugs while competing professionally.

When asked bluntly if he “doped” his blood, used EPO, or Testosterone he answered yes to all queries. He also admitted that he could not have won his seven Tour de France titles without cheating and began doping in the mid 1990s.

Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996, but was declared cancer free in 1997 after undergoing extensive chemo therapy and surgery. He used his experience as a survivor to establish the Live Strong Foundation for cancer support.

Armstrong had been accused of taking performance enhancing drugs for much of his career but vehemently denied it. (Watch video below).

When asked about the denials Armstrong had this to say:

You were defiant, you called other people liars.

“I understand that. And while I lived through this process, especially the last two years, one year, six months, two, three months, I know the truth. The truth isn’t what was out there. The truth isn’t what I said, and now it’s gone – this story was so perfect for so long. And I mean that, as I try to take myself out of the situation and I look at it. You overcome the disease, you win the Tour de France seven times. You have a happy marriage, you have children. I mean, it’s just this mythic perfect story, and it wasn’t true.”
