Friday, March 22, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., deputies with Harris County Precinct 7 will join Constable May Walker in distributing handgun lock safety kits to help kick off the department’s CHILDSAFE Program”. The event will be held at Precinct 7’s Main Office, located at 5290 Griggs Road in PalmCenter. One free gun lock safety kit per family will be provided as long as supplies last. Anyone, especially individuals with children and(or) teens living at home can call (713)643-6118 and reserve a free gun lock safety kit today!

The focus of the Precinct 7 CHILDSAFE Program is to promote safe handling and proper storage of handguns, particularly in homes where children and(or) teens live. Children are naturally curious, especially when it comes to firearms. Injuries from accidental shootings are the second leading cause of death for children or teenagers in the United States. Constable May Walker urges, “Residents with firearms in their homes must take common sense steps to avoid accidental shootings by storing weapons locked and unloaded with ammunition secured in a separate place.”
