President Barack Obama paralleled both the spirit of the Boston Marathon and the task of finding whose responsible for Monday’s terrorist attack through scripture as he addressed mourners at an interfaith service in Boston Thursday afternoon.

Vowing to support the victims of the dual bombings, Obama said the resolve of the city is “the greatest rebuke” to the perpetrators.

“Yes, we will find you, and yes, you will face justice,” Obama said, amid applause. “We will find you, we will hold you accountable, but more than that, our fidelity in a free life will grow stronger. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but one of love, power and self-discipline.”

In a tribute to both the fallen and the city itself, Obama reminded Bostonians of their contributions to the country and the world at large. Despite the terror which occurred at the Boston Marathon, the president said the event would continue.

“Over successive generations, you welcome more and more to our shores. Every fall, you welcome students all across America and all across the globe, and every spring you graduate them back into the world. Year after year, you welcome the greatest talents in arts and science, research, you welcome them to you concert halls,” Obama said. “And, every third Monday in April, you welcome people from all around the world for friendship and fellowship and healthy competition.

“A gathering of men and women of every race, religion, every shape and every side. A multitude represented by those flags which flew over the finish line. They leave with a piece of this town tucked into their hearts.”

The president remembered the lives of Krystle Campbell, 29, of Arlington, Mass., Martin Richard, 8, of Dorchester, Mass., and Lingzi Lu, a Boston University graduation student from China, but also vowed to the injured they would run their race again.

“Tomorrow the sun will rise over Boston, tomorrow the sun will rise over the country we love,” Obama said. “This special place, this state of grace, scripture tells us to run with endurance the race set before us. May God hold close those who were taken from us too soon.”
