(HOUSTON) – If you’re an everyday toll road user there’s a chance scam artists are trying to get to you through email.
It looks like a message from E-Z Tag, saying you owe toll money. It’ll ask you to click on a link to download the invoice.
Leah Napoliello with the Houston Better Business Bureau says that’s not a good idea.
NEWS 92 FM’s Trey Westerberg reports:
“It actually is a virus that can scan your computer for any personal or banking information,” Napoliello said. “So, you don’t want to open any attachments that are claiming to be from E-Z Tag or E-Z Pass.”
She says a legit business will send an invoice in the mail, not email. And if at any time you see the email is asking you to download anything, walk away.
“Just consider how the business usually reaches you,” Napoliello said.
“If they usually send you items via mail, and suddenly you are getting a bill through e-mail, then that is something you will want to be weary of.”
Napoliello says spelling and grammar mistakes are common on scam emails.
