August 29th has been officially declared National Chicken Wing Day by its original city of Buffalo, NY. In 1964, a bar owner’s son and his college buddies were hungry for a late night snack. She decided to fry up some wings and toss them in butter and hot sauce and the buffalo wing was born. The popularity of the buffalo chicken wing has since grown to be a staple in American cuisine and is served in fast food and upscale restaurants alike.

In 2013, Americans consumed 27 billion wings, 1.23 billion during Superbowl weekend alone! So for the many wing lovers out there today, lots of participating wing specialty restaurants are offering specials. Check your favorite spots and mention National Wing Day or use this recipe to make your own.
