Michael Sam couldn’t be happier after being released by the St. Louis Rams because the Dallas Cowboys, the team he admired as a little boy growing up in Hitchcock, Texas, has now picked him up for their practice squad. Remember the movie Rudy, where the underdog practice player who was not quite as big and fast as the other players, but had the heart of a lion, finally got a chance to suit up and play in an actual game? Can’t help but hope that Michael Sam will have such a moment with the Cowboys.

As the hype and talk of Michael Sam becoming the first openly gay player in the NFL has died down, obviously the Cowboys organization doesn’t feel that he will be a distraction and are confident in him enough to give him a chance to help the team succeed. The coaches don’t care about that and neither do the players, so hopefully the fans and sponsors won’t either. I mean, really, who cares! The real question is can he play football? His consensus All-American, SEC Co-Defensive Players of the year awards and the Dallas Cowboys say he can. Click here to read more.
