President Barack Obama said last week, after that armed intruder entered the White House, that he has complete confidence in the people who protect him, the Secret Service.

He might want to rethink that, especially after hearing the details of that security breech uncovered during a special congressional investigation.

Jason Chaffetz, a Republican congressman, who heads the House Homeland Security subcommittee is livid.

He should have questions.

You will too after hearing the details.

My CNN colleague, Congressional correspondent Dana Bash reports that the White House intruder who jumped the fence last month got much further into the White House than previously disclosed.

The intruder, Omar Gonzalez, an Iraq war vet, ran through the main floor of the White House after overpowering a Secret Service officer.

Previously, the Secret Service had said Gonzalez was stopped after entering the front door of the North Portico.

And it is now reported that the intruder passed the entrance to the upstairs residence before making it nearly 80 feet through the East Room after overpowering the agent.

Congressman Chaffetz says an alarm box meant to alert agents of an intruder had been muted prior to the incident because the sound distracted the ushers.

The congressman’s question, just like most Americans, is why wasn’t this man taken down?

Those are great questions.

Here are a few more.

The Secret Service put out a statement initially that the man was not carrying a weapon.

He was.

The Secret Service also said the man made it just inside the front entrance.

Now we’re learning that may not be true either.

In 2011 the agency initially cited random gang violence as the explanation for an incident where bullets were fired at the White House.

Turns out at least 7 of bullets actually hit the building and were from a man who targeted the residence.

It reportedly took agents 4 days to even realize the White House had actually been hit while the youngest Obama daughter was at home.

The Secret Service has a whole lot of explaining to do.

If the leader of the free world is not safe in his own home, then neither are we, nor is our way of life.

We, like the president and his family, just might be living under a false sense of security.
