Duchess of Alba Sighting In Seville - June 17, 2014

You have probably never, ever in life seen someone be as fierce as the Duchess of Alba. We could all take a style cue from the deceased aristocrat.

Maria del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, who passed away at the age of 88 this week, was known as the world’s most-titled person. It’s in the Guiness Book of World Records. Google it!

The thrice-married lady holds the record with 57 titles, including the fact that she was a duchess five times over! She had a wedding to rival the pageantry of Queen Elizabeth’s own nuptials, sporting a diamond and pearl tiara for her first big day in 1947.

Credentials like that come with quite a few coins and her worth was estimated to be between 600 million and 3.5 billion Euros. She was quick to point out that she didn’t have it all in cash, though. “I don’t like to talk about money,” Maria said of her family’s wealth in her autobiography. “Many people confuse having cash with having assets-we’ve never had a lot of cash.”

Maria certainly lived a life worth writing about as she surrounded herself with incredible talent. She was once asked to pose nude for Pablo Picasso (her husband vetoed that), and she even loaned out one of her many fabulous homes to Yves Saint Laurent for Dior fashion show in 1959. And for her third wedding in 2011, where she married a man 24 years younger than her, she performed a flamenco dance.

That’s just one example of her flair for life and fashion. Even up until her final days, Maria was never one to shy away from doing something a little flashy as she’d often be seen sporting beaded ankle bracelets and fishnets right up until her final months on Earth.
