The nation has been on pins and needles all day in anticipation of the announcement soon to be made via press conference of the decision made by Ferguson grand jury regarding Darren Wilson and the shooting death of Mike Brown. As early as last week, the governor of Missouri Governor Jay Nixon called for a state of emergency for Ferguson. The National Guard has been called upon in preparation in the event of violence and riots once the decision is announced.

Sources close to Ferguson, Missouri describe the area’s mood as tense but calm. Businesses have been boarded up, FBI agents are present and schools will be closed tomorrow. The delay in the announcement only increases tension and gives the perception that law enforcement is expecting chaos regardless of the decision.

Whether or not there is an indictment of Darren Wilson of murder, a lesser charge or if he is not charged at all, the decision means that the case moves on the next stage in the process of justice, whatever that may be. I think most people are ready to move on to whats next. There will be protest on both sides and it would be best for everybody if that protest was done peacefully. Bloodshed and violence will only create more divisiveness among all concerned.

The Brown family has issued a statement calling for peace and 4 1/2 minutes of silence once the decision is announced.

After the Grand Jury’s decision, we are asking for 4 1/2 minutes of silence to remember why we lift our voices.

We are not here to be violent. We are here in memory of our son. We are here for protection of all children. We are here to request justice and equality for all people. We lift our voices and demonstrate to ensure black and brown men, women, and children can live in this country without being devalued because of the color of their skin.
