A former minister is accused of stealing more than $800,000 from Houston’s First Baptist Church over a six-year period.

40-year-old Jerrell G. Altic allegedly embezzled the money during a six-year period that ended in November 2017.

His attorney told reporters outside a Houston courtroom, “He knew this day was coming. And he’s sorry.”

A Harris County grand jury indicted Altic on Tuesday morning. He turned himself into authorities and is cooperating with the church as well as authorities and plans on paying back the $800,000 he stole from the church.
