A’ngela Winbush interviewed with the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning and discussed her new gig, the hit stage play, ‘Church Girl’. Winbush plays a Pastor’s wife and is a mother to a “church girl” turned stripper(Demetria McKinney-House of Payne).

The stage play also stars actress Robin Givens who plays the “Madame” character and Winbush’s nemesis. Gospel great, Karen Clarke-Sheard plays Winbush’s sister and of course, Clarke-Sheard sings throughout the show as well. Winbush also tears down the house, singing a few original tunes written by the producers and her unforgettable R&B song, “Angel”.

Recovering from hoarseness, Winbush told Tom Joyner that she is very excited about the play and that she also has been studying to obtain her Master’s Degree in Divinity at a theology university in Missouri.

To some this may come as a surprise, but Angela pledged her faith to Christ in 2006 on the Christian TV show, Gospel of Music with Jeff Majors when she disclosed that she’d overcome Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer after 6 months of chemotherapy in 2003. She also claimed that her undying faith in God got her through having a cyst (benign) removed from her breast, the ending of her marriage to Ron Isley in divorce, and her struggle with depression.

She also told TJMS that she will be on the road until the end of May and hasn’t been home in quite a while. The National Tour for ‘Church Girl’ kicked off in Detroit yesterday, and will be there until the 28th of May.

The play swings down to Houston May 11-15th, at the Verizon Wireless Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and going fast!
