Commuters could have slick drives this morning and tonight as a rain-making low pressure area off the coast skirts the Houston region, but sunny days are expected this weekend.

Today, the high temperature will top out in the mid-50s and the overnight low will be in the lower 40s. A 30 percent chance of rain is forecast, increasing to 40 percent tonight.

Most of the rain today will be west of Houston while the rain tonight will be mostly to the city’s south, according to the National Weather Service.

The low pressure trough is about 100 miles off the southern Texas coast and will move northeast, dragging the showers and clouds with it.

On Thursday, the high temperature will return to the mid-50s and the low w ill dip to near 40 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. A 30 percent chance of rain is forecast .

But that night skies are expected to begin clearing and forecasters predict that Friday will be sunny with a high temperature in the lower 60s and the low in the lower 40s. No rain is forecast. North wind will be between 5 mph and 10 mph.

This weekend and early next week will be sunny with temperatures ranging from near 60 degrees to near 40, which is a few degrees below normal for this time of year.

Normal temperatures for this period range between about 65 degrees and 43 degrees.
