In 2005, a nationally syndicated television show, The Tom Joyner Show, was launched with Joyner as emcee of a one-hour comedy/variety show, combining sketch comedy featuring the Tom Joyner Show Players (his co-hosts from the radio show), talent contests, and musical performances by such artists as Earth, Wind and FireBrian McKnightKenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Toni Braxton. The show attracted advertisers such as McDonaldsChrysler CorporationWalMart and Southwest Airlines.

While the program achieved top ratings for a weekly syndicated program themed to African American viewers –even taking the number one show position although it was in a late night time slot– in such markets as New York and Atlanta, affiliates in other markets were reluctant to upgrade the show to prime time for a targeted audience.[citation needed] Without the opportunity to reach a larger audience in earlier time slots and achieve greater revenues, the show had limited ability to offset the residuals and music clearances required by the many performers appearing on the show. Despite award recognition, in May 2006, Joyner decided not to continue due to production costs related to the music variety show concept.[citation needed] Re-runs are shown on TV One cable channel.

    Hi Tom!

I listen to you every morning and I love your show.

I wanted to send you an e-mail to let you know what my husband and I are going through and to also see if there may be someone else out there that may be going through the same thing or has gone through the same thing and can help us with this issue. We live in Texas.

A few years ago we built a home and financed it through the builders’ lender. The lender expressed to us that the loan would be sold to a mortgage company which was fine with us. We had concerns and expressed those concerns and were told that whatever agreement we had with the lender the mortgage company would follow those same guidelines.

We live about 15-20 miles from Galveston in a predominately Black town and neighborhood, with I guess you could say middle class homes. When we purchased our home we made sure that we chose a builder who would build to Windstorm specifications and have our home certified. Before securing the loan for our home I asked if it was necessary to purchase windstorm insurance for =
our home and was told no. About 2 months after we were in our home, the lender sold to a mortgage company (Citi). We had no problems and continued paying our mortgage to (Citi). 8 months after Hurricane Ike (Citi) bought and placed windstorm insurance on our home without notification in the amount of=A0 $10,734.00, this was the premium for the insurance. Took our money =
from our escrow account to pay for most of it and raised our mortgage payment from $1400.00 a month to $4676.00 a month. We continued to pay our mortgage in the amount it was previously and refused to pay for the
windstorm insurance because we have home insurance and in the amounts agreed upon in our contract. Citi is now foreclosing on our home because we have refused to pay for the insurance and we had never missed a mortgage payment.

Do you know of anyone who may be or had been in this situation who could of=
    fer help in this matter?

    Thank you,
    Mrs. Henderson
