Miami, Florida (CNN) — Portions of the northern Gulf Coast could start to see heavy winds and squalls Saturday, even though forecasters downgraded the weather system known as Bonnie to a tropical depression, the National Hurricane Center said.

 As of 5 a.m. ET, the system was moving through the eastern Gulf after crossing southern Florida Friday. It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

 The depression was moving west-northwest at a very fast clip for such weather systems — 17 mph. Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center said the storm was expected to cross over the Gulf coast, anywhere from Louisiana to southeastern Texas, late Saturday night or early Sunday.  Read more..
