Police want to speak to a woman who called for a taxi about an hour before a cab driver was gunned down early Thursday morning, the second cabbie fatally shot this week.
Here is the phone call to Yellow Cab from a woman identifying herself as “Shantay.” The call was placed about 2:53 a.m. on Thursday, Houston police said.
Blaise Uzoma Nwokenaka, 50, of Bellaire, was found shot to death inside his van-style taxi in the 12100 block of Overbrook about 4:15 a.m. Thursday, police said.
Investigators said Nwokenaka’s death is related to the fatal shooting of another cabbie, Mohammed Nabil Elsayed, 32, of Houston, who was discovered dead in a drainage ditch in the 5400 block of Wheatley about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Elsayed’s cab was found abandoned in the 12400 block of Overbrook.
Also, both men, Yellow Cab drivers, were summoned to pick up their last fares at the same Chevron gas station at Whittington and South Dairy Ashford, after the station was closed for the night.
The station is not far from where Nwokenaka’s body was found and where Elsayed’s taxi cab were discovered abandoned.
