It’s looking a little bleak for his former team, as they’ve had their struggles in the last few years, but former Dallas Cowboys star Emmitt Smith is still shining, albeit in other arenas than football. The Hall of Fame running back has just released his second book, “Game On: Find Your Purpose, Pursue Your Dream,” detailing his life after the NFL and his winning formula.
Now a real estate investor and developer, the husband and father shares his strategies for success in all areas, personal and professional. After three Super Bowl rings, a “Dancing With The Stars” trophy and even his participation in a national poker championship, Smith can certainly back up any information he shares.
Since the release of his first book, 1995’s “The Emmitt Zone,” Smith says he’s learned many lessons worth sharing, telling the Orlando Sentinel he feels that this time, he’s coming from an even wiser perspective.
“In writing my Hall of Fame speech, I was able to reflect over the many, many years and recollect or recall or think about the people that actually have impacted my life in a lot of different ways,” Smith said. “In doing so, I accumulated so many thoughts, so many different ideas, so many stories, so many different concepts that I applied to my life in terms of helping me overcome certain things, making certain decisions, recognizing when there was a situation where I could have taken advantage of something but I chose not to because of humility. So, taking all of those stories and being able to apply some type of scripture to it was something that I felt I could do – put it in a book and maybe help another person’s life. This is much more deeper than just sports.”
