Firefighters removed a driver from a BMW car after a sport utility vehicle crashed into the car and caused both vehicles to fall in a ditch.

The accident took place around 9 p.m. Tuesday on West 12th Street near Seamist Drive in northwest Houston.

A woman was driving a Mercedes-Benz ML350 westbound on West 12th Street and passed by a four-way stop sign without stopping before crashing into the BMW. The ML350 landed on top of the BMW in the ditch.

Both drivers were taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital in stable condition.

A unit with the Houston Police Department driving while intoxicated task force followed the driver of the ML350 to the hospital to determine if she was intoxicated since paramedics told police they smelled alcohol on her.
