A man is dead after being gunned down in front of an apartment complex in southeast Houston in the early morning hours of Thursday.
The man was later identified as 32-year-old Michael Cordova.
The family of Cordova struggles to understand what happened early Thursday morning.
Cordova’s niece Karla Martinez says the family was asleep in their upstairs apartment in the 4,000 block of Broadway when they heard shots.
“At one o’clock we heard some gunshots and we went to go check what had happened and he was dead on the floor.”
She describes the father of two looking forward to a weekend that could have changed his life.
Cordova had spent several years in prison, was released three or four years ago and turning his life around.
