As Americans are glued to their seats watching gavel-to-gavel coverage of the George Zimmerman trial, some in the media are treating this affair as a circus or spectacle. Take, for instance, CNN anchor Ashleigh Banfield‘s grotesque joy she exhibited yesterday when the court took a break.

While awaiting the return of the court, she spoke with her guests and colleagues reporting from Florida. In her zeal, she quipped:

“I do love to watch the Great Seal [of the State of Florida] but I really like the live testimony more… I love this trial.”

You love this trial, Ashleigh? That’s highly inappropriate! Trayvon Martin is dead, and all you can muster to gush is how much you love this trial?

See Ashleigh in Action on CNN Below!

Fortunately, our shock is echoed by others who have taken to Twitter to bash the CNN anchor for her consistent excitement–and dare we say happiness–in covering this tragic story:

Apparently, this isn’t the first time Banfield has displayed such inappropriate behavior:

Of course, can we be surprised with this sort of thing from CNN? Ashleigh was one half of what is in contention for the network’s most laughable coverage faux pas of 2013, in addition to John King‘s two-source confirmation that a Boston Marathon bombing suspect had been apprehended–when in fact, he had not been.

Watch as Ashleigh and HLN’s Nancy Grace stage a satellite interview… in the same exact parking lot:
