Trayvon Martin Protest

Up-to-the-Minute Trayvon Martin Updates:

Houston will join 100 cities in a peaceful protest for Trayvon Martin Saturday, organized by Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action Network. The Houston protest will unfold at 11 a.m. on the steps of Houston City Hall, near the reflection pool.

The goal of the protest, Bishop James Dixon said, is to call for the U.S. Department of Justice to intervene in the matter, after a Florida jury acquitted 29-year-old neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Martin.

Dixon, along with area pastors, community and civic leaders, elected officials and demonstrators, will rally peacefully in support of civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

“We are calling for all people who believe that this verdict misrepresents justice to join us in this peaceful but vocal and visual demonstration,” Dixon said. “We refuse to accept injustice as the final outcome in this case. America must change!
