Houston Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee says those who believe the federal government shutdown had no major consequences are “sorely wrong.”

She says the 16-day federal government shutdown cost the U.S. economy 24-billion dollars.  Jackson Lee says that “is shameful.”

Adding it is “tragic, 24-billion plus and growing. Countries around the world were watching America. What we do, impacts the economic flow of the world.”

The Houston area alone is home to some 31-thousand federal employees.  The congresswoman says the shutdown hurt those workers, their families and cost the U.S. economy to lose billion of dollars.

Jackson Lee says those who brought the government to a halt, should understand that budget battles can not be resolved by shutting down the government.
