Today (November 18th) marks the 85th anniversary of the first appearance of Mickey Mouse. To celebrate, Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new theatrical short called Get a Horse! which recreates the look of Mickey’s first film back in 1928.
Director Lauren MacMullan told the Huffington Post,
“That was when Mickey was still new to the world. Back when there was a brashness to this character and anything seemed possible whenever he appeared on the screen. I really missed that version of Mickey Mouse. Those early synchronized sound cartoons that Walt & Ub poured their hearts and souls into. Those black & white cartoons had such a charm & an energy.”
Lauren also revealed that the studio is currently brainstorming ideas for new Mickey Mouse cartoons.
