Broadway Director extraordinaire, Kenny Leon talks to the TJMS about his hit stage play, ‘Holla If You Hear Me’, the inspiring and thought-provoking story that includes the musical contributions of the late Tupac Shakur.
“I’ve never been so happy in my life, I think ‘Holla If You Hear Me’ is ‘A Raisin In The Sun’ 55 years later,” Leon says.
So what impressed Leon enough to feature the west coast rapper’s music in his script?
“I looked at Pac’s words on paper. He’s like Shakespeare and Lorraine Hansberry. He was trying to say stuff about honor, respect and love of country.”
