(BAYTOWN, TX) – A local church is hoping to build bridges to the community and families in need on Wednesday with its first book bag giveaway.
Pastor Carlos Caban said Temple Emmanuel will give away around 200 backpacks filled with school supplies at 5 p.m. at the church, 1328 Cherry St., in Baytown.
“Our founding pastor’s vision was to help out the community through reaching out to the kids,” Caban said. “This is the best way we can help the community.”
Caban said elementary and junior high students who line up with their parents at the church can receive a backpack while supplies last.
“We want to see the kids and the families come by,” Caban said.
Caban and his wife Ruth were recently ordained as Temple Emmanuel’s new pastors after founding pastor Jesus Vela stepped down after 42 years of service.
