Ebola Prayer Service

Danny Mata/NEWS 92 FM

(ALIEF, TX) — A Houston-area church held a special prayer service for the people in Africa affected by the Ebola virus.

Christ the King Episcopal Church in Alief held the service Sunday morning.

Reverand Johannes George is from Ebola-stricken Sierra Leone.  He said he is in constant contact with family members in Sierra Leone and talked about the struggles people in Africa are facing.

“People are suffering there,” George said.  “They are quarantined; they don’t have access to go out of town to hunt for food, so we are very much concerned.”

George said he has siblings who are still living in Africa and that has not been easy on his mother.

“She is really, really devastated because she is concerned about my other siblings there, her grand children,” he said.  “So, it’s a nightmare for her.”

He said there is still a great deal the public does not know about Ebola.

“Recently we had a bout of cases popping up in the United States, so it’s not a West African problem,” he said.  “It’s an international problem.”

George said he is in favor of the use of experimental drugs to help cure the virus.
