(CONROE, TX) – A Conroe group would like you to help them provide back to school supplies for the children of military families who are having a hard time making ends meet on an Army budget.

It’s called ‘Operation Backpack,’ and each year the non-profit group Honor Bound gives out supplies to the children of needy military families stationed with the Army Reserve unit at Lone Star Executive Airport in Conroe.

Kenny Smith has been doing this for seven years.

“My dad died from World War II injuries, and government helped us and some churches helped us, so we’re returning the help from our youth, even,” Smith said.

Honor Bound hopes to provide school supplies to at least 125 students this year, but like always they have more need than funds.

Each backpack costs about $100 to put together.

“Now, this is not just given to everyone,” Smith said. “It is a need.”

While each backpack doesn’t provide everything the student needs, Smith says it does helps them get off to a good start.

You can donate by dropping off money or school supplies at Kustom Sun Tanning in Conroe.
