Legendary soul singer Gladys Knight talked to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about her new gospel album and the changes she’s seen in music today.

On her new album, Where My Heart Belongs:

“It’s inspirational. At first I was going to do a Christmas album, but why should we give all this praise just to Christmas. Let’s take the Christmas music – he was born, he was crucified, he was all of those things. Let’s put it in one album and make it inspirational and you can go there any time of year, any time of day….If we really remember the sacrifice and we hold it dear, you can think about that anytime. I decided to put it all in one place…it’s a good thing because we all don’t share the same cultures…as long as we’re praising the same God it’s okay.”

On how Gospel music has changed:

“They’ve kind of infused the pop and R&B into all of it. Gospel is promoted the same in other genres and I think that’s one of the reason that they’ve come up in the finances. They play in the same arena.”
