The search is on for one man linked to an altercation where a cop from Ferguson, Missouri, got shot!
The people of Ferguson are firing back after a turbulent summer of civic discord following the death of Michael Brown. CNN reports that one cop was shot in the arm while chasing a man he came across on patrol.
An unnamed officer was making his solo rounds on Saturday night, when stopped by the Ferguson Community Center to check out what was going on at the building. While making a check around the facility, the cop spotted a man near the back. The suspect ran away when the officer got out to ask what he was doing. During the foot chase, the suspect turned on the cop with a gun in his hand. He hit the officer in the arm while firing several shots.
Authorities immediately wanted to establish that the shooting was likely not connected to any of the ongoing protests in the city following Michael’s murder. “It didn’t happen within the proximity of the protest area,” St. Louis County Police Chief Col. Jon Belmar said during a press conference. “I wouldn’t have any reason to believe right now that it was linked in any way, shape, manner or form with the protests.”
Instead, Jon reports that the shooting happened in a more secluded area, and the officer was only struck once. The shooter made his escape intro a wooded area as the officer fired back at him, and authorities were not able to find him in their hour-long search of the vicinity.
The officer was taken to an area hospital following the shooting, but he was doing well enough to tell his fellow officers about the shooting.
