Strong. Fast. Tough. Those are some ways to describe the middle linebacker at Humble ISD’s Creekwood Middle School. You might want to run in a different direction or she’ll make you pay.

Her name is Destiny Armendariz, and she plays football. And no, she doesn’t think it’s weird.
“The way I look at it is we’re all the same once we put our pads on and our helmet, no one can tell the difference,” Destiny said.
And she says the boys on her team are cool.
“They’re 100 percent on board with it,” she said.
She sounds like a football player, too. What’s her favorite thing about the sport?
“You get to hit people,” she said.
I like it. And how long does she want to play?
“I want to get to a college level and the NFL,” she said.
Remember, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. She encourages all girls who want to play to get out and do it. She’s setting the example.
