It’s been a total whirlwind for the New Jersey police department in trying to track down Kyle Crosby. The 28-year-old was wanted and finally arrested this past Monday, January 12 as a suspect in the murder of his wife 26-year-old Erica Crippen Crosby. Though he was unaware that the cops knew, they were also after him because he had sold some of Crippen’s clothes in order to support his most recent relapse into hard substance abuse.

Crosby’s arrest is the latest in his downward spiral that played out like a Lifetime movie. First, the couple, (married for nearly a year) were last seen at PJ Whelihan’s restaurant in Cherry Hill on December 30. Later that night, Crippen uploaded a new picture to Facebook around 11PM, her last known activity. That specific social media platform would go on to play a major role in getting Crosby in handcuffs.

Fast forward to January 7: Crosby filed a missing person report after concern was raised by her family who hadn’t heard from her in days. On January 10, Crosby was charged with child endangerment because Crippen’s 7-year-old hadn’t been in school for a week. Authorities said the filing came because of the “level of care he provided to the children in the absence of his wife.” Though not explicitly implied by news reports, there are no mentioning of the children gone missing or in harm’s way since and may be in the custody of Crippen’s family. The 7-year-old is from a previous relationship of Crippen, and the married couple then had another child, who’s now 3-months-old.

He later failed to show up to work in the following days and Crippen’s family said his phone was disconnected. Her relatives had become so distraught about the situation, they had started a Facebook page to receive any information on Crippen’s whereabouts.

Crosby chose to sell some of his missing wife’s clothes for drugs and the woman he had the binge with went on Facebook and contacted a member of Crippen’s family to tell them what happened. Authorities were soon on the road to capture Crosby and found him in Bellmawr driving his wife’s red 2000 Ford Taurus.

Crosby is now in a county jail and he’s bail is at $1.2 million. The case is being investigated by Mount Laurel’s police department, with assistance from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit.

Sadly, Crippen’s body remains at an unknown location which according to the above investigators, only Crosby knows of.
