ColoradoBomingSuspect

An arrest has been made in connection of the January bombing near the offices of the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP. The Associated Press is reporting Thaddeus Murphy was in custody and will head to a federal court later on today to face charges for last month’s bombing. The Associated Press is reporting the FBI investigated the blast as a hate crime, but don’t believe the attack was racially motivated. According to reports, Murphy confessed to making a pipe bomb and didn’t target the NAACP’s offices. Court records allege Murphy was upset over financial issues he was facing and was upset an accountant which worked in the building where the NAACP’s Colorado Springs chapter is located, wouldn’t return his phone calls and tax records.

Murphy is currently being charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and arson of a building. Luckily no one was hurt in the explosion. According to court papers, Murphy claims the accountant destroyed his tax records on purpose and informed investigators he learned how to create a pipe bomb online and made it in his garage using a shotgun shell and fireworks fuses. Investigators found five fire arms in Murphy’s possessions which he isn’t allowed to have due to a 2008 felony conviction.
