A recent study done by SeatSmart has found that songs by artists like Chris Brown, Beyonce and Kanye West don’t pass a third grade reading level. According to Complex Magazine,
The study found that the overall reading level on hit songs have declined since 2005, with hip hop having the lowest lyrical intelligence out of the four major genres in music.
In hip-hop, Eminem has the most advanced lyrics that mark under a fourth grade level, while artists like Chris, Beyonce and Kanye are all under the third grade reading level.
As the saying goes, simplicity is a musicians best formula.
