On Friday, August 7th, Prince announced that his new album, HitNRun, will be released through Jay-Z’s streaming service, Tidal, on September 7th.

While meeting with a group of reporters in Minneapolis on Saturday, August 8th, Prince shared his thoughts on signing to labels. He said,

“Record contracts are just like . . . I’m gonna say the word . . . slavery . . . I would tell any young artist . . . don’t sign.”

He also said,

“Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves . . . Jay Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves.”

I agree with him on that.  He also said that there will eventually be a physical release of the album.
