“I knew what the sound was as a kid. I practiced it at home but that was my favorite part because it’s something I was interested in,” he said.

So when did he pick up the instrument that has taken him around the world (he’s currently in Europe opening for The Foo Fighters) and eventually landed him in Vanity Fair?

“I was four years old when I picked up the trombone. If I din’t play music I would’ve been the outcast of the family. Being in New Orleans we have a lot of great musical families – the Marsalais’ and the Nevilles’.”

The Peanuts Movie is in theaters now.
