Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin took notice when Patti LaBelle sold over 1 million sweet potato pies at Walmart. While the pie typically retails for a mere $3.48, the demand was so high over the Christmas holidays that people were selling the dessert for upwards of $60 on ebay!

“These pies were selling at a rate of one pie a second for 72 straight hours” said Walmart spokesman John Forrest Ales.

Now Aretha is ready to get a piece of the action with her new food business! She was most recently in the news for donating 50 hotel rooms to residents of Flint, Michigan who are in the midst of a water crisis.

During an interview with a Detroit news station, the “Natural Woman” singer spilled the tea that she’s working on her own line of products which will include chili, gumbo, baked chicken and desserts.

While it would seem as if Gladys Knight and her successful chain of chicken and waffles restaurants would be Aretha’s biggest competition, she’s in fact coming for Ms. Patti!

At 73-years-old, she threw some old school shade when she said she’s never eaten one of the famous desserts and “Ms. Patti’s gonna have to move that pie to the side!”

Let the hunger games begin!
