Officer Fired For Social Media Post

Fairborn police say officer Lee Cyr was fired after posting a seemingly racially charged and all around inappropriate comment on Facebook. Black Lives Matter leader, MarShawn McCarrel II recently committed suicide by shooting himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse. On a news post about the death, Cyr commented, “Love a happy ending”. Despite the officer being off duty at the time, his actions violated the department’s social media policy. Cyr had been with the Fairborn police force since 1994. He has yet to make a statement regarding his termination. CBS

New States Report Lead Contaminated Water

In recent weeks, officials in Sebring, Ohio, and Jackson, Mississippi, have spoken about the high levels of lead in the local tap water. Newark, New Jersey’s drinking water is supposedly “perfectly safe” to drink however corroded piping has elevated the lead levels and discolored the water. Officials have since shut off the water taps at 30 schools in Newark. The city communications director has shunned comparisons to the water crisis in Flint citing that the problem isn’t as servere. Still, drinking water has been replaced with water coolers and bottled water.The state Department of Health is working with the DEP to resolve the issue. Newark’s Health Department is also giving free blood tests to children. HuffPost

Attorney General Disinterested In Supreme Court Nomination

After an intense vetting process to become the Attorney General of the United States, Loretta Lynch is disinterested in going through the process again in order to be considered for the Supreme Court. Following the death of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, President Obama is reportedly looking to fill a the seat with a minority nomination. While Lynch could have made history–again, as the first African American woman Supreme Court judge, she would prefer to focus on her current position, “As the conversation around the Supreme Court vacancy progressed, the Attorney General determined that the limitations inherent in the nomination process would curtail her effectiveness in her current role,” Melanie Newman, a Justice Department spokeswoman, said in a statement on Tuesday. “Given the urgent issues before the Department of Justice, she asked not to be considered for the position.” NBC News
