A confessed serial killer, who preyed on poor Black women in Indiana, has been hit with five new charges, reports CNN.

Darren Vann, 44, was charged Monday with five new counts of murder. He was arrested in 2014 and charged with killing Afrikka Hardy, 19, and Anith Jones, 35. He then allegedly confessed to killing five others, leading police to their bodies, which were found in abandoned buildings spread across Gary, Indiana.

He faces the death penalty if convicted on the charges, writes the news outlet:

Authorities said Vann confessed to killing seven women and led police to their bodies — all of which were found within five miles of each other.

Though Vann was born in Indiana, he had previously lived in North Carolina, where he was arrested on unspecified charges in 1993, and Texas, where he was convicted of aggravated rape and served a five-year prison sentence that ended in 2013.

CBS News reports that “Vann is being held without bail in Lake County Jail pending a July 25 trial date in the Hardy and Jones slayings. It was not clear whether the new charges would affect the trial date.”
