Ohio State’s campus community is reeling after an attack left eleven people injured, ABC reports. OSU officials tweeted out an active shooter alert shortly before 10 a.m. Monday morning. Students barricaded themselves into classrooms, waiting for word from authorities.

Somali refugee Abdul Razak Ali Artan, an OSU student, was identified as the suspect after he drove his car through a crowd before slashing multiple victims, according to ABC News.  A responding officer then shot and killed the suspect, according to officials.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich said in a statement: “My thoughts are with the victims of this attack right now and I pray for their safety and recovery. I am grateful for the professional, coordinated response from first responders whose efforts helped effectively contain this incident before further harm could be done. I have been staying in contact with Ohio first responders since the incident began and have spoken with Ohio State’s President Dr. Michael Drake to pledge whatever additional help the university needs.”

Classes were canceled at OSU for the rest of the day in the wake of the tragedy.
