Urban One Houston Celebrates Women’s History Month
This annual celebration highlights the contributions of women in history and contemporary society.
Urban One Houston welcomes the opportunity to highlight outstanding women from the past, present and those that are on the road to be outstanding in the future.
The #MeToo Movement has inspired women from all nationalities and backgrounds to come to the front.
This is a Celebration of Women, from a local and national levels, that have made
great strides in the community with their outreach, poetry, motivational speaking and politics.

Muriel is the Executive Director of Advancement for the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University.
Muriel is an accomplished business professional with special skills in marketing, communications, public relations, strategy, business development, fundraising, and event management.
Muriel is a native Houstonian, whose professional background spans over 30 years in radio executive management. During her radio management career she has managed creative talent, top, and bottom line budgets for profit. She also owns AdRehab Marketing, a marketing firm that provides strategy and marketing solutions. Muriel’s strength is to transform something strong into something superb. Excellence, not average is her measure. She is strategic and sees patterns when others see complexity. Discernment has provided a guided path for success.
She has been recognized as one of the “50 Most Influential Women in Radio”, as one of radios Top Managers, and as one of the “35 Most Influential African Americans in Radio” for excellence in leadership several times. She’s known for her swift ability to rehabilitate brands, revitalize revenue and restore consumer loyalty. Muriel was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame and AdRehab Marketing was recognized for a client campaign as The Marketer of the Year 2011 Best of Category winner.
Funches is a graduate of Howard University, VP of Membership of the Missouri City Chapter, Links, Inc. and involved with numerous professional organizations and boards. Muriel started to volunteer at the Ensemble Theatre in 2006 once she returned to Houston. She has served on The Ensemble Theatre Board since 2010 in service capacities including Bylaws committee, Gala Committee, subscription drive co-chair, marketing committee chair, and VP of Programs.
