Lamar High School student Michael Brown became the talk of the country last week. The 17-year-old senior applied to 20 colleges, from Stanford to Harvard, Princeton, Yale and more. The brilliant student not only was accepted into all 20 of those schools, he got a full scholarship to each and every one of them, including $260,000 in additional scholarship offers.

Brown listed that Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania were his top choices. Which means the other 12 schools may have to do some catching up in order to potentially have the brilliant mind grace their campus beginning in the fall.

“It’s something I’m proud of because I see my hard work paying off, determination paying off, sacrifices paying off,” Micheal told CNN. “For me, it’s important to highlight that I’m not the only student of color who is achieving.”

Brown champions organizations such as QuestBridge and Breakthrough Collaborative for helping him see others like him academically. These particular organizations link low-income communities to higher education opportunities. Thanks to these program, Michael can say he has at least one friend at all eight Ivy League schools.

“I want people to be informed and get access to these same programs.” Micheal said.

Shine on Michael Brown, shine on.
