Guys, don’t try this at home. Please. We beg of you.

A teenager in Utah crashed her car doing the #BirdBoxChallenge, the viral challenge brought on by Netflix’s Bird Box film that arrived near the end of 2018. Despite a warning from Netflix (!) warning people not to hurt themselves doing the viral challenge, the 17-year-old teen in Utah and her 16-year-old passenger figured … sure, lets try driving blind!

The driver had her passenger pull her beanie over her eyes while cruising on a highway. The teen driver was behind the wheel of a pickup truck and happened to careen into oncoming traffic, slamming her vehicle into the driver’s side of a white sedan before she wound up hitting a light pole.

Lt. Travis Lyman, of the Layton Police Department, spoke with Fox 13 about the incident, which took place Jan. 7. Despite the crash taking place over a week ago, the cause wasn’t known until that Friday. Lyman said he was “embarrassed” over the whole thing.

“Honestly I’m almost embarrassed to have to say ‘Don’t drive with your eyes covered’ but you know apparently we do have to say that,” he told the outlet. “…The stakes are just so high and it’s just such a potentially dangerous thing as it is: to try and do it that way is inexcusable. It really put everybody at risk.”
