On March 5, the international superstar joined her mother Tina Knowles, and New York City politicos Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz to unveil the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The Beyoncé Cosmetology Center, will offer a seven month cosmetology training program for adult men and women, enabling hundreds of Phoenix House clients to prepare for successful careers in the cosmetology field.

Located in the downtown are of Brooklyn – located at 50 Jay Street, to be exact — the Phoenix House Career Academy is a residential substance abuse treatment program that offers several fully accredited vocational training programs on-site.

Beyonce has a special connection to the co-located treatment and vocational program, which has created a thriving recovery community that empowers and supports students as they work toward their professional and personal goals. For her role as Etta James in ‘Cadillac Records,’ the L’Oreal spokeswoman researched drug abuse and recovery at Phoenix House.

The 16-time Grammy Award winner also said she dedicated her paycheck from the film to the charity.
