Can you rel8 to this?

They say 40 is the new 20. If that’s true, there are certain turns of events that many 40 year olds could probably do without – dating being one. Admittedly, there is some degree of excitement with going out again, but it can be scary. Having to start all over, learning a new persons idiosyncrasies and bridging the gap of time is much to be desired but if true companionship is to be found, it is more than necessary in an effort to collect the necessary data for a new lifelong partnership.

The new 20 huh? Well…there are no real boundaries at 20. The youthful nature allows for one to run until the wheels fall off and quickly start the process all over again in the morning. At 40, the wheels begin to wobble somewhere around midnight. The eyelids begin to feel a little weighty and it is no longer a secret that the date is coming to a close as the concert of yawns ensues. Most conversations at 20 are generally frivolous and plans are often spontaneous and thrill seeking, whereas the mid-lifers will find one central location to dine, listen to a good set and go home. Talks include kids, work and Anderson Cooper. Exciting!

But it’s the end of the evening that becomes most interesting – the kiss. The notion of whether or not to pucker up at the conclusion of your evening out creates the most awkward suspense-filled sensation ever to be imagined. It’s a lot like learning how to ride a bike all over again. You have the fundamentals down pat, but you are unsure of the mechanics as the hardware has changed significantly. Unlike the young adult, there is some degree of contemplation, but when it happens…hubba hubba. Experience trumps youthfulness. I’m just saying!
