HLN’s Richelle Carey sat down with Janet Jackson at the Essence Music Festival to chat about her upcoming role in Tyler Perry’s “For Colored Girls,” her childhood and her passion for acting.
[Acting is] more of a challenge for me than singing and dancing is and I love that about it,” Jackson said.
“It was my first passion,” she added, which is why Jackson is thrilled to be a part of “For Colored Girls,” Perry’s film adaptation of the 1975 play, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.”
“It’s a great piece of history,” Jackson said.
But despite acting at 10 years old, and singing professionally by age 14, Jackson said she doesn’t think children should enter into the business before they’re 18.
“A kid should have a life. They should enjoy their childhood,” she said. “You only get one.”
